- How will my child get from their classroom to the after school program?
Kindergarten and 1st-grade kids are picked up from their classrooms and escorted to the after school program. 2nd-5th graders walk themselves from their classrooms to the cafeteria sign in. The 2nd- and 3rd-grade classrooms are in the same hallway as the cafeteria and their classroom teachers usually send them together at the end of the day.
- What clothing does my child need to be comfortable playing outside throughout the school year?
We play outside every day (except in extreme weather), so kids will need appropriate outdoor clothing every day. Weather changes often in Ithaca, so we suggest checking the afternoon forecast each day and sending your children to school with appropriate outdoor items. Our general guideline is that kids can wear one less layer than the staff members feel comfortable in, but parents can always let us know if they have preferences about what their children wear for outdoor play.
- Is my child required to play outside everyday?
Yes, with very few exceptions we will play outside every day for about an hour and children have the option for an additional hour.
- Can I send snacks from home for my child to eat during after school?
You are welcome to send food from home for your children to eat during after school. Parents of children with severe allergies or dietary issues are encouraged to send snacks from home.
- How can I contact the program during after school hours?
The easiest way to contact the program during after school hours is to send a message through the ProCare system, or text or call the director’s cell phone. You will be given this number during registration.
- When can I pick up my child from after school?
You will always have access to your children and can pick them up at any time. The kids pack-up at 5pm and are more ready for pick up at that time.
- Is it possible to pay for individual supplemental days?
It is sometimes possible to enroll in individual supplemental days, but spaces are generally only available if we know ahead of time that a child who is enrolled in the Supplemental program will be absent.
- Can my child participate in the Belle Sherman enrichment program if they are enrolled in after school?
Lots of after school kids participate in the enrichment programs. They will go directly to enrichment at school dismissal and are escorted and signed-in to after school at 3pm, when their enrichment classes wrap up.
This is a space for notifications, such as closings, etc. It will generally be hidden.
